حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، وَعَنْ أَبِي سَوْرَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ} [التوبة: ١٠٨] ؟ "، قَالَ: «كَانُوا يَسْتَنْجُونَ بِالْمَاءِ وَكَانُوا لَا يَنَامُونَ اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who are these people about whom Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: 'Men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves' [Surah al-Tawbah: 108]?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) (himself) said: They used to cleanse themselves (istinja) with water, and they would not sleep the whole night.
