حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الْعَيْشِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْحَرَشِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا ابْنُ خُثَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي وَأَوْجِزْ قَالَ: «إِذَا قُمْتَ فِي صَلَاتِكَ فَصَلِّ صَلَاةَ مُوَدِّعٍ وَلَا تَكَلَّمْ بِكَلَامٍ تَعْتَذِرُ مِنْهُ وَاجْمَعِ الْيَأْسَ مِمَّا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ» .
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me something and keep it brief. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you stand for your prayer, pray the prayer of one who is bidding farewell; do not say anything for which you would have to apologise; and make yourself free of need of what is in people's hands."
