حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا يَعْلَى بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ حَرْبِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: «قَدْ أَمَرْنَا لِلنِّسَاءِ بِوَرْسٍ وإِبَرٍ، فَأَمَّا الْوَرْسُ فَأَتَاهُنَّ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ، وَأَمَّا الْإِبَرُ فَأُخِذَ مِنْ نَاسٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ مِمَّا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْجِزْيَةِ» ، فَقُلْتُ لِلرَّبِيعِ أَوْ قِيلَ لَهُ أَوْ سَمِعَهُ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ قَالَ: نَعَمْ
Sayyiduna Harb bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit on Friday saying: "We have ordered that the women be given wars (a fragrant yellow dye) and needles. As for the wars, it came to them from Yemen, and as for the needles, they were taken from some of the people of the dhimmah (protected non-Muslims) out of the jizyah they owed."
The narrator said: I asked al-Rabi' - or he was asked, or al-Rabi' bin Harb himself heard it - and he said: Yes.
