حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَمِّي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِنَّائِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الشُّعَيْثِيُّ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ بَدَلٍ، قَالَ: «شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ، فَانْهَزَمَ أَصْحَابُهُ أَجْمَعُونَ إِلَّا الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأَبَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، فَرَمَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وُجُوهَنَا بِقَبْضَةٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَانْهَزَمْنَا، فَمَا يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنَّ شَجَرَةً وَلَا حَجَرًا إِلَّا وَهُوَ فِي آثَارِنَا»
Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Badal al-Tamimi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I was present opposite the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Hunayn. All of his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions scattered except al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib and Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with them both). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of earth and threw it towards our faces, and we were routed. It seemed to me that there was not a tree or a stone left that was not pursuing us."
