Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3156 — I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا الْعَبْدَسِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ بْنُ يَعْلَى الطَّائِفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي، عَنْ عَمِّهِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأُبَايِعَهُ، فَقَالَ: «مَا اسْمُكَ؟» قُلْتُ: الْحَكَمُ. قَالَ: «بَلْ أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللهِ»
Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to pledge allegiance to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is your name?" I said: Al-Hakam. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather your name is Abdullah."
