Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the days of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most beloved of people to me. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) received prophethood and went to Madinah, Hakim attended the (Hajj) season while he was still a disbeliever. There he found a garment (hullah) of Dhu Yazan being sold, so he bought it to present it as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He brought it to him (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah and wanted him (peace and blessings be upon him) to accept it as a gift, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) refused and said: "We do not accept anything from the polytheists; but if you wish, I will take it from you for its price." So when he (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept the gift, I gave it to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it, and I saw it on him (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit, and that day I did not see anything more beautiful than him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it to Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both). Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the garment on Usamah and said: "O Usamah, are you wearing the garment of Dhu Yazan?" Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes. By Allah, I am better than Dhu Yazan, and my father is better than his father. Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then I went to the people of Makkah and began to astonish them with what Usamah had said."
