It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Marwan bin al-Hakam came to him during the illness in which he died, and Marwan said to Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): Since we have been together, I have not been displeased with you over anything except your love for Hasan and Husayn. The narrator said: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered himself and sat up, and said: I bear witness that we went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we were on part of the road, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the voices of Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn crying while they were with their mother. He (peace and blessings be upon him) hastened his pace until he reached them, and I heard him say to her (their mother): "What is the matter with my two sons?" She said: Thirst. The narrator said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached back to a waterskin to look for water in it, and on that day water was only in scattered small pools, and the people were in need of water. He (peace and blessings be upon him) called out: "Does any of you have water with him?" There was no one left who did not reach back to his saddle to look for water in his waterskin, but none of them found a single drop. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hand me one of them." So she handed him over to him from beneath the curtain, and I saw the whiteness of her forearms as she handed him over. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took him and pressed him to his chest, and he was crying loudly and would not stop. He put out his tongue for him, and he began to suck it until he calmed down or became settled, and I did not hear him cry, while the other was still crying as before and would not stop. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hand me the other." She handed him over too, and he did the same with him, so both became quiet, and I heard no sound from them. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Move on." So we split to the right and left away from the litters until we met him on the open part of the road. So how could I not love these two when I have seen this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?
