Al-Sha'bi said: Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) used to narrate this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a slave runs away, no prayer of his will be accepted, and if he dies (in that state), he dies a disbeliever." He said: Then a slave of Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) ran away, so he seized him and struck off his head.
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Its meaning is that he committed disbelief and joined the abode of war (dar al-harb).
