Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 21674 — I asked Sayyidah Umm Ruman, who was

Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyidah Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of the Mother of the Believers Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), about the incident of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), when what was said about her was said, and Allah revealed her innocence. She said: Umm Mistah said: May Allah ruin Mistah! Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: Why? She said: Because he too was among those spreading that talk. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: What talk? So she told her. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "Have the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also heard this?" She said: Yes. At that she fell down unconscious, and when she came to, she had a fever with shivering. (Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her)) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "What is the matter with her?" We said: A fever has come over her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perhaps it is because of some grave thing being said about her." So she sat up and said: By Allah! If I swear an oath, you will not believe me, and if I offer an excuse, you will not excuse me. My example and yours is that of Ya'qub (peace be upon him) and his sons, and it is Allah alone whose help is sought against what you describe. (Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her)) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went away, and then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed the verses He was to reveal. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her and told her, and she said: By the praise of Allah, not by the praise of anyone else.
