حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كَثِيرٍ السُّحَيْمِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: وَاللهِ مَا خَلَقَ اللهُ مُؤْمِنًا يَسْمَعُ بِي وَلَا يَرَانِي إِلَّا أَحَبَّنِي، قُلْتُ وَمَا عَلِمْتَ بِذَلِكَ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ أُمِّي كَانَتِ امْرَأَةً مُشْرِكَةً، وَكُنْتُ أَدْعُوهَا إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، فَتَأْبَى عَلَيَّ، فَدَعَوْتُهَا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، فَأَسْمَعَتْنِي فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أَكْرَهُ، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي، فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَدْعُو أُمِّي إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، فَتَأْبَى عَلَيَّ، وَإِنِّي دَعَوْتُهَا فَأَسْمَعَتْنِي فِيكَ مَا أَكْرَهُ، فَادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يَهْدِيَ أُمَّ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اللهُمَّ اهْدِ أُمَّ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ» ، قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ أَعْدُو أُبَشِّرُهَا بِدَعْوَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُ الْبَابَ إِذَا هُوَ مُجَافٍ فَسَمِعْتُ بِخَضْخَضَةِ الْمَاءِ، وَسَمِعْتُ خَشْفَةَ رِجْلِي، فَقَالَتْ: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، كَمَا أَنْتَ وَفَتَحَتِ الْبَابَ وَلَبِسَتْ دِرْعِهَا، وَعَجِلَتْ عَلَى خِمَارِهَا، فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبْكِي مِنَ الْفَرَحِ، كَمَا كُنْتُ أَبْكِي مِنَ الْحُزْنِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَجَابَكَ فِي أُمِّي، فَادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يُحَبِّبَنِي وَأُمِّي إِلَى عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَيُحَبِّبَهُمْ إِلَيْنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اللهُمَّ حَبِّبْ عَبْدَكَ وَأَمَتَكَ إِلَى عِبَادَكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَحِبَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمَا»
Abu Kathir al-Suhaymi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) told us; he said: By Allah, Allah has not created any believer who hears of me and has not seen me except that he loves me. I said: O Abu Hurayrah, how do you know that? He said: My mother was a polytheist woman, and I used to invite her to Islam, but she would refuse me. One day I invited her, and she made me hear things about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that I disliked. So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have been inviting my mother to Islam, but she refuses me, and I invited her and she made me hear things about you (peace and blessings be upon him) that I disliked; so supplicate to Allah that He guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah." I went out running to give her the glad tidings of the supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I reached the door, it was closed. I heard the splashing of water, and she heard the sound of my footsteps, and she said: O Abu Hurayrah, stay where you are. Then she opened the door, having put on her shift and hurriedly put on her head-covering, and said: I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. So I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping out of joy just as I had been weeping out of grief, and I said: O Messenger of Allah, Allah has answered your supplication concerning my mother; now supplicate to Allah that He make me and my mother beloved to His believing servants and make them beloved to us. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, make this servant of Yours and his mother beloved to Your believing servants, and make them beloved to the two of them."
