Sayyidah Furay'ah bint Malik (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that her husband went out (from home), until, when he was six miles from Madinah at the edge of a mountain called al-Qadum, thieves attacked him and killed him. Sayyidah Furay'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) was living among Banu al-Harith bin al-Khazraj in a house that was not her husband's property; it was only for residence. Then her brothers came, among them Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: We do not have enough means both to give you (separate maintenance) and to keep up (our own household); what suits us best is that we all live together, and we fear loneliness for you, so ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked permission to stay with them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do so if you wish." Then she turned to leave, until, when she reached the room, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come, repeat what you said." So she repeated it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remain in your house until the waiting period ('iddah) is completed."
