Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: On the night that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey (Isra'), he (peace and blessings be upon him) spent that night in my house. During part of the night I could not find him (peace and blessings be upon him), and sleep would not come to me out of fear that someone from Quraysh might have accosted him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril came to me, took hold of my hand and took me out, and there by the house was a mount smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey. He mounted me on it, then set off until he brought me to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). He showed me Ibrahim (peace be upon him); his form resembled my form, and my form resembled his form. He showed me Musa (peace be upon him), who was of wheat-brown complexion, tall, with straight hair; I likened him to the men of Azd Shanu'ah. He showed me Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him), who was of medium height, white with a reddish tinge; I likened him to Urwah bin Mas'ud al-Thaqafi. He showed me the Dajjal, whose right eye was effaced; I likened him to Qatan bin Abd al-Uzza. And I wanted to go out and tell Quraysh what I had seen." (Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) said:) So I took hold of his (peace and blessings be upon him) garment and said: I remind you of Allah; you are about to go to a people who will drive you away and deny what you say, and I fear that they will attack you. She said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) pulled his garment free from my hand, then went out to them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them while they were sitting and told them what he had told me. Then Jubayr bin Mut'im stood up and said: O Muhammad, if I were young as I used to be, you would not have said this while among us. Thereupon a man from the people said: O Muhammad, did you pass by camels of ours at such-and-such a place? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, by Allah; I found that they had lost one of their camels and they were searching for it." He said: Did you also pass by the camels of such-and-such a tribe? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, at such-and-such a place; a red she-camel of theirs had broken its leg, and I found them, and they had a bowl of water from which I drank." The people said: Tell us their number and how many herdsmen were with them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was not occupied with counting them." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood, and the camels were brought (before him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) counted them and came to know their herdsmen too. Then he came to Quraysh and said: "You asked me about the camels of such-and-such a tribe; they are so many, and among their herdsmen are so-and-so and so-and-so. And you asked me about the camels of such-and-such a tribe; they are so many, and among their herdsmen are Ibn Abi Quhafah and so-and-so and so-and-so, and they will come upon you at the mountain pass tomorrow morning." The narrator said: So in the morning they went to the mountain pass to see how true what he (peace and blessings be upon him) had said was, and they met the camels. They asked: Did you lose a camel? They said: Yes. Then they asked the others: Did a red she-camel of yours break its leg? They said: Yes. The people said: Did you have a bowl? Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, it was I who placed it; no one drank from it, nor did they pour it out on the ground. And Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) affirmed his (peace and blessings be upon him) truthfulness and believed in him, and so on that day he was named al-Siddiq.
