Sayyidah Aqilah bint Ubayd bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) said: My mother Barirah bint al-Harith al-Atwariyyah and I came along with women from among the Muhajir women, and we pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) had a tent pitched for himself at al-Abtah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took from us the pledge that we would not associate anything with Allah, according to the whole verse. Then, when we had affirmed it and stretched out our hands to pledge allegiance, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not touch the hands of women." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sought forgiveness for us, and that was our pledge of allegiance.
