Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 211 — The saddle of the riding camel

Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The saddle of the riding camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his (peace and blessings be upon him) perfume were in my keeping. A man came and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) for one of the two, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is with Talhah bin Ubaydullah." He came to me and informed me, and I refused to give it to him. He went back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the same reply again. He came to me and informed me, and I refused again. He went back once more to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said the same, and then he came back to me. I said to myself: He (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent him to me for no other reason than that he wants his need to be fulfilled, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was hardly ever asked for anything except that he did it. So I said to myself: Serving the person of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is dearer to me than serving his saddle, so I handed it over to him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to travel and ordered that a saddle be fastened for him. That man came to me and asked: Which of the two saddles was dearer to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: The Ta'ifi saddle. So he fastened it and brought it near to him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to mount it, it overturned, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who fastened this?" The people said: So-and-so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hand it over to Talhah." So it was returned to me. Talhah said: By Allah! I have not deceived anyone in Islam except him, so that the saddle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come back to me.
