It is narrated from Sayyidah Zaynab al-Thaqafiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give charity, even if it is from your jewellery." So Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said to Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Will it suffice for me if I spend my charity on you and on my orphaned nephews? Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was in straitened circumstances. Abdullah said: Ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about that. Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and found that a woman of the Ansar was also there. Zaynab said that she had come to ask about the same thing I had come to ask about. Then Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to us, and we said to him: Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but do not tell him who we are: Will it suffice for me if I spend my charity on my husband and my orphaned nephews? So Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him this, and he said: "Which Zaynab?" He said: The wife of Abdullah bin Mas'ud, and a woman of the Ansar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell her that she will have a double reward: the reward of charity and the reward of upholding the ties of kinship."
