حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى النَّرْسِيُّ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي سُوَيْدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، قَالَ: زَعَمَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ خَوْلَةُ بِنْتُ حَكِيمٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الْوَلَدُ مَحْزَنَةٌ مَجْبَنَةٌ مَجْهَلَةٌ مَبْخَلَةٌ وَإِنَّ آخِرَ وَطْأَةٍ وََطئَهَا اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِوَجٍّ»
Umar bin Abd al-Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The righteous woman Khawlah bint Hakim (may Allah be pleased with her) related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Children are a cause of grief (for their parents), a cause of cowardice, a cause of ignorance and a cause of miserliness. And indeed, the last mighty assault that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, carried out was at Wajj (Ta'if)."
