Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) first fell ill in the house of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and his (peace and blessings be upon him) illness became so severe that he (peace and blessings be upon him) fainted. She said: His (peace and blessings be upon him) wives consulted one another about giving him (peace and blessings be upon him) medicine through the side of his mouth, and they did so. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to, he said: "What is this? Did the women who came from over there do this?" And he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand towards the land of Abyssinia, and Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) was among them. They said: O Messenger of Allah! We feared that you had pleurisy (dhat al-janb). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a disease with which Allah would not afflict me. Let no one remain in the house who has not been given this medicine, except the uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)" - meaning Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). She said: So Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) too was given the medicine that day although she was fasting, because of the insistence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
