It is narrated from Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Mother of the Believers, that a man said: O Messenger of Allah! My father is a very old man who is not able to perform Hajj; shall I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell me, if your father owed a debt and you paid it off, would that suffice for him?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then perform Hajj on his behalf."
