Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 20354 — Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith told me

Ali bin al-Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed the night with her on her night, then got up to perform ablution for the prayer, and she heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying during his ablution: "Labbayk (Here I am), Labbayk, Labbayk" three times, and "Nusirtu (I have been helped), Nusirtu" three times. She said: When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, I said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father be ransomed for you, I heard you saying during your ablution "Labbayk, Labbayk" three times and "Nusirtu, Nusirtu" three times, as though you were speaking to someone. Was anyone with you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the poet of Banu Ka'b, calling on me for help, and he claims that Quraysh helped Banu Bakr against them." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out and instructed Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to prepare his (peace and blessings be upon him) provisions for a journey and not to inform anyone. She said: Then her father (Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him) came in to her and said: My daughter, what are these provisions? She said: By Allah, I do not know. He said: This is not the time for the campaign against Banu al-Asfar (the Romans), so where does the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intend to go? She said: I have no knowledge. She said: We stayed for three days, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in the dawn prayer, and I heard the poet reciting these verses:
O Lord, I implore Muhammad by the ancient pact of our father and his father.
We raised you, so you became our son; then we accepted Islam and never withdrew our hand.
Indeed Quraysh broke their promise to you and violated your firm covenant.
And they claimed that you would call on no one; so help, may Allah guide you, with a mighty help.
And call the servants of Allah to come as reinforcement, among them the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who has made ready.
Bright like the full moon, rising upward; if he is wronged, his face reddens (with anger).
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nusirtu" three times, or "Labbayk, Labbayk" three times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, and when he reached al-Rawha', he looked at a towering cloud and said: "This cloud is rising up for the help of Banu Ka'b." A man from Banu Nasr bin Adi bin Amr, the brothers of Banu Ka'b bin Amr, stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, will Banu Adi also be helped? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your cheek be covered in dust! Are Adi anything but Ka'b, and Ka'b anything but Adi?" That man was martyred on that same journey. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, conceal our news from them until we take them by surprise." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) set out until he camped at Marr (al-Zahran). Abu Sufyan, Hakim bin Hizam and Budayl bin Warqa' had gone out that night and looked down on Marr. Abu Sufyan saw the fires and said: O Budayl, Banu Ka'b have held back their people. Budayl said: The war has driven them towards you. Then they came down, and (the men of) Muzaynah, who were on guard duty that night, seized them. They asked them to take them to Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), and they took them to him. Abu Sufyan asked him to seek a guarantee of safety for him from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) took them to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then brought them out. Abu Sufyan said: We want to leave. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wait until morning. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to perform ablution, and the Muslims rushed to the water of his (peace and blessings be upon him) ablution and began wiping it on their faces. Abu Sufyan said: O Abu al-Fadl, the kingship of your nephew has become mighty indeed! Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is not kingship; rather it is prophethood, and that is what they desire.
