حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ، قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ؟، قَالَ: «لَا إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي» ، قَالَتْ: إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ دُرَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: «بِنْتُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي، إِنَّهَا بِنْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَرْضَعَتْنِي، وَإِيَّاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ، فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا بَنَاتِكُنَّ» .
Sayyidah Zaynab bint Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates from her mother, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), that Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you have any inclination towards my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, she is not lawful for me." She said: "I have heard that you are proposing to Durrah, the daughter of Abu Salamah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The daughter of Umm Salamah? By Allah, even if she were not my stepdaughter raised under my care, she would not be lawful for me, for she is my niece through fosterage: Thuwaybah nursed both me and her. So do not offer me your sisters or your daughters."
