حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَحْيَى الرَّازِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ: «كُنَّا نَكُونُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمَاتٌ، فَيَمُرُّ بِنَا الرَّاكِبُ، فَتَسْدِلُ إِحْدَانَا الثَّوْبَ عَلَى وَجْهِهَا مِنْ فَوْقِ رَأْسِهَا، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَتْ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْخِمَارِ»
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), relates: We would be with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the state of ihram, and when a rider passed by us, one of us would let her cloth hang down over her face from above her head. And sometimes she said: from above the head-covering.
