حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، قَالَا: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ عَمِّي هِشَامَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ كَانَ يُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ، وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ، وَيَفْعَلُ وَيَفْعَلُ، فَلَوْ أَدْرَكَكَ لَأَسْلَمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «كَانَ يُعْطِي لِلدُّنْيَا وَحْدَهَا وَذِكْرِهَا، وَمَا قَالَ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اغْفِرْ لِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ» .
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates: I said: O Messenger of Allah, my uncle Hisham bin al-Mughirah used to feed people, uphold the ties of kinship, and do many (good) deeds; had he lived to see your time, he would surely have accepted Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He used to give (all that) only for this world and its renown, and not a single day did he ever say: O Allah, forgive me on the Day of Judgement."
