Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) relates that when she came to Madinah, she told the people that she was the daughter of Umayyah bin al-Mughirah, but they disbelieved her and would say: How much these women from abroad lie! Then some of them set out for Hajj and said: Will you write to your family? So she sent a letter with them. When they returned to Madinah, they confirmed what she had said, and her honour in their eyes increased. She said: Then when Zaynab was born, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and proposed marriage to me. I said: One like me is not married; I can no longer bear children, and I am a jealous woman with children. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am older than you. As for the jealousy, Allah will remove it, and as for the children, their matter is entrusted to Allah and His Messenger." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) married her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her and say: "Where is Zunab?" until one day Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) came and carried her off, saying: This one is keeping the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) away. She (Umm Salamah) was nursing her. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and asked: "Where is Zunab?" Qaribah bint Umayyah told him and confirmed that Ammar bin Yasir had taken her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will come to you tonight." She said: So I got up, set down my hand-mill, took out a few grains of barley that were in a jar, took out some fat, and prepared a pudding of it for him (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the night there, then when morning came he said: "You are honoured among your family. If you wish, I will give you seven days, and if I give you seven days, I will give each of all my wives seven days as well."
