Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 19216 — Sayyiduna Ali proposed marriage
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، قَالَا: ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي يُؤْذِينِي مَا آذَاهَا وَيُغْضِبُنِي مَا أَغْضَبَهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl. News of this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fatimah is a part of me; whatever hurts her hurts me, and whatever angers her angers me."
