حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، أَخُو الْحَجَّاجِ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، قَالَ: رَآهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فِي الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ: «مَا لَهُ؟» قَالُوا: نَذَرَ أَنْ يَقُومَ فِي الشَّمْسِ وَيَصُومَ وَلَا يَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اجْلِسْ وَاسْتَظَلَّ وَتَكَلَّمْ وَصُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Isra'il (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him standing in the sun, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with him?" The people said: He has vowed to stand in the sun, to fast and not to speak. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Sit down, come into the shade, speak, and fast."
