It is narrated from the grandfather of Zamil bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on the day of Eid al-Fitr to the Eid prayer, with Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) on his right and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) on his left, or (the narrator named) Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished, he passed by the door of Abu Kathir or Abu Kabir, where butchers were in its courtyard, and the people had only recently come out of the Jahiliyyah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "How do you sell?" They said: Such and such. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell however you wish, but do not mix carrion with slaughtered meat against the people. O people, remember: do not hoard, do not make false bids to raise the price, do not go out to meet the goods (of those coming from outside the town) to buy them cheaply, let no town-dweller sell on behalf of a desert-dweller, let no man sell over the sale of his brother, let no one propose marriage over the proposal of his brother until he gives him permission, and let no woman ask for the divorce of another woman in order to empty her vessel (for herself); rather let her marry (elsewhere), for her provision is upon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
