It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the witr prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I like to pray witr at midnight. Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, descends from the highest heaven to the lowest heaven and says: Is there anyone asking? Is there anyone seeking forgiveness? Is there anyone supplicating? Until, when dawn breaks, He rises (back up)."
