حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجُذُوعِيُّ الْقَاضِي، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُسْتَمِرُّ الْعُرُوقِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْقَيْنِ، أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَهُ شَيْءٌ مِنْ تَمْرٍ فَأَهْوَى إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيَأْخُذَ مِنْهُ قَبْضَةً يَنْثُرُهَا بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ فَضَمَّ طَرَفَ رِدَائِهِ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ وَإِلَى بَطْنِهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «زَادَكَ اللهُ شُحًّا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Qayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he had some dates with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached towards him to take a handful of it to scatter among his Companions, but he wrapped the edge of his cloak tightly against his chest and stomach. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "May Allah increase you in stinginess."
