Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Ma'iz bin Malik was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He was a short man, wearing a waist-wrapper (izar), with no upper garment over him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to him; I do not know what he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, because I was far away and people were between me and him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him away." Then he said: "Bring him back." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to him (again) while I was listening, except that people were between me and him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him away and stone him." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and delivered a sermon, and I was listening; he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever we set out in the path of Allah (for jihad), one of them stays behind, making a bleating sound like that of a he-goat (meaning he inclines towards indecency), and he gives one of the women a little milk (to entice her). By Allah! Whomever of them I get hold of in this, I will make him an example (with an exemplary punishment)."
