Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 18943 — I heard Yahya - and none of us ever

Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin As'ad bin Zurarah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Yahya - and none of us ever found anyone like him - relating to people that Sayyiduna As'ad bin Zurarah (may Allah be pleased with him) - who was Muhammad's grandfather - was afflicted with an illness of the throat called al-dhubhah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will certainly do my utmost; I will certainly leave myself an excuse regarding Abu Umamah." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) cauterised him with his own hand, and he died. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What an evil death this is with regard to the Jews!" They say: Why did he not ward off (death) from his companion? (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "I have no power over anything from Allah, either for myself or for him."
