Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Siyabah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. He (peace and blessings be upon him) went to relieve himself, and two small date-palm saplings came and joined one with the other. Then a talh or acacia (samurah) tree came and encircled him (peace and blessings be upon him), then it went back to its original place. He said: And a camel came, dragging its neck along the ground and groaning, until the ground around it became wet from its tears. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Do you know what it is saying?" They said: "What is it saying?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its owners have intended to slaughter it." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent someone to them and said: "Will you give this camel to me as a gift?" He said: "I have no property dearer to me than it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then treat it well." He said: "By Allah, I will always honour it." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by two graves whose occupants were being punished, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These two are being punished for something that is not major." He (peace and blessings be upon him) took two fresh date-palm stalks and placed them on their graves, then said: "Perhaps the punishment will be lightened for them as long as these remain fresh."
