حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ، يَقُولُ: أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِرَجُلٍ أَشْعَرَ قَصِيرٍ ذِي عَضَلَاتٍ أَقَرَّ بِالزِّنَا فَرَدَّهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَرُجِمَ وَقَالَ: " أَكُلَّمَا نَفَرْنَا غَازِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يَتَخَلَّفُ أَحَدُكُمْ يَنِبُّ نَبِيبَ التَّيْسِ يَمْنَحُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْكُثْبَةَ، أَمَا إِنِّي لَنْ أُوتِيَ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ فَعَلَ هَذَا إِلَّا جَعَلْتُهُ نَكَالًا، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ سِمَاكٌ: إِلَّا نَكَّلْتُهُ، "
Simak bin Harb says that he heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: A hairy, short, muscular man who had confessed to adultery (zina) was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned him away twice, then gave the order concerning him, and he was stoned. He said: "Is it that whenever we set out to fight in the way of Allah, one of you stays behind, bleating like a billy goat, giving one of the women a little something? Beware! Whoever of you does this and is brought before me, I will certainly make him an example" - and sometimes Simak said: "I will certainly punish him severely as a deterrent."
