Lineage of Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), a participant in Badr: son of Abd al-Muttalib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy bin Kilab bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik; his kunyah was Abu al-Hasan — Reports narrated by Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُوَاصِلُ مِنْ سَحَرٍ إِلَى سَحَرٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to join fasts (wisal) from one pre-dawn (sahar) to the next (that is, he fasted continuously without breaking the fast).
