Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was among the People of the Suffah (Ashab al-Suffah). I saw us in such a state that none of us had a complete garment, and sweat had made streaks of dust and dirt on our skins, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and began speaking to give glad tidings to the poor among the Muhajirun. Just then a man came whose appearance was very fine. Whatever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, that man would strive on his own to make his words prevail over the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he had gone away, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah does not love this man and his voice. These people twist their tongues before people the way a cow twists its tongue in the pasture; likewise Allah will twist their tongues and faces in the Fire."
