حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ، ثنا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ سَلْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ النَّخَعِيِّ، عَنْ وَرَّادٍ، كَاتَبِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ، كَتَبَ إِلَى الْمُغِيرَةِ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ آخِرِ مَا كَانَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا سَلَّمَ: «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، اللهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ، وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ» بَعْدَ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ، وَكَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ خَدِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ، وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ خَدِّهِ الْأَيْسَرِ
Warrad, the scribe of Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him), relates that Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking what words the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say at the end. So he wrote that after ending with the salam - after giving the salam to his right and to his left - he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "There is no true god except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner; His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the greatness of one who has greatness avails him nothing against You." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) would give the salam to the right until the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) right cheek could be seen, and to the left until the whiteness of his left cheek could be seen.
