It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Abi Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) that his mother Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Abu Ma'qil had promised me that he would perform Hajj only with me, but he went off for Hajj alone on his mount, and I did not have the strength to go with him. So I asked him for the harvest of his date palms, and he said: That is the provision of my family. And I asked him for a young camel he had, and he said: It is dedicated to the path of Allah; I cannot give it to you. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Ma'qil! What is Umm Ma'qil saying?" He said: She speaks the truth. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give her your young camel, for Hajj too is the path of Allah." So he gave her his camel. Then she said: I am a woman who has become ill and old, and I fear that I will not be able to perform Hajj before I die. Is there anything that can take the place of Hajj? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, performing Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj." So she performed Umrah in Ramadan.
