Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 17607 — from al-Hasan (al-Basri)

Awf bin Abi Jamilah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from al-Hasan (al-Basri) (may Allah have mercy on him), who relates: Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) fell into an illness in which his condition became grave, and Ibn Ziyad came to visit him. He said: I will tell you a hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever is put in charge of a flock (of people) and does not look after them with sincere goodwill will not even find the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance is found from a distance of a hundred years' journey." Ibn Ziyad said: Why did you not tell me this hadith before now? He said: "Even now, were it not for the condition I am in, I would not have told it to you."
