Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I had a sister who used to receive proposals of marriage, and I used to keep her from people's proposals. Then a cousin of mine (the son of my paternal uncle) came to me, and I married her to him. The two of them stayed together for as long as Allah willed, then he gave her a divorce in which he had the right to take her back. When her waiting period was over, he came to me along with the other suitors asking to marry her. I said to him: I kept her from others, preferred you for her and married you (to her), then you divorced her. By Allah! I will never marry her to you now. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And when you divorce women and they complete their waiting period, do not prevent them from marrying their former husbands" [Al-Baqarah: 232]. So I made expiation for my oath and married her (to him).
