Sa'id bin al-Musayyab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) found him absent one Friday. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed, he came to Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: "O Mu'adh, what is the matter that I did not see you?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, a Jew is owed an ouqiyah of gold by me; I set out towards you and he held me back. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Mu'adh, shall I not teach you a supplication to make? Even if you had debt the size of Mount Sabir, Allah would pay it off on your behalf — and Sabir is a mountain in Yemen. So supplicate with it, O Mu'adh. Say: 'O Allah, Owner of sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty away from whom You will; You honour whom You will and You humble whom You will; in Your hand is all good; indeed You have power over all things. You cause the night to enter the day and You cause the day to enter the night; You bring the living out of the dead and You bring the dead out of the living; and You provide for whom You will without measure. O Most Merciful and Most Compassionate of this world and the Hereafter, You give of them to whom You will and withhold from whom You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy by which I will have no need of the mercy of anyone besides You.'"
