حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: أَبْصَرَتْ عَيْنَاي وَسَمِعَتْ أُذُنَاي رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ وَفِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ فِضَّةٌ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْبِضُهَا لِلنَّاسِ فَيُعْطِيهِمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اعْدِلْ قَالَ: «وَيْلَكَ فَمَنْ يَعْدِلُ إِذَا لَمْ أَعْدَلْ؟ لَقَدْ خِبْتَ وَخَسِرْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَكُنْ أَعْدَلُ» ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: دَعْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَلْأَقْتُلْ هَذَا الْمُنَافِقَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَعَاذَ اللهِ أَنْ يَتَحَدَّثَ النَّاسُ أَنِّي أَقْتُلُ أَصْحَابِي، إِنَّ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابَهُ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حُلُوقَهُمْ أَوْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My eyes saw and my ears heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Ji'ranah, when there was silver in the garment of Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was giving it out to the people by the handful. A man said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, be just! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you! If I am not just, then who will be just? You would have failed and lost if I were not just." Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, permit me to kill this hypocrite. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah forbid that the people should say that I kill my companions! This man and his companions will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats (or gullets); they will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through the game."
