حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا طَاهِرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَوْسِرِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّخَعِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنُؤَاخَذُ بِكُلِّ مَا نَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ؟ فَقَالَ: «ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ، يَا مُعَاذُ بْنَ جَبَلٍ، وَهَلْ يَكُبُّ النَّاسَ عَلَى مَنَاخِرِهِمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ إِلَّا حَصَائِدُ أَلْسِنَتِهِمْ؟»
Abu Amr al-Shaybani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Will we be held to account for everything we speak? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your mother be bereaved of you, O Mu'adh bin Jabal! Does anything throw people on their noses into Hell except the harvests of their tongues?"
