حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى حِمَارٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ: عُفَيْرٌ، فَقَالَ لِي: «يَا مُعَاذُ، هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا حَقُّ اللهِ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ؟ أَنْ يَعْبُدُوهُ وَلَا يُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا، وَحَقُّ الْعِبَادِ عَلَى اللهِ أَنْ لَا يُعَذِّبَ مَنْ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا» ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا أُبَشِّرُ النَّاسَ؟ فَقَالَ: «لَا تُبَشِّرْهُمْ فَيَتَّكِلُوا»
Amr bin Maymun (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a donkey called Ufayr, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Mu'adh! Do you know what the right of Allah upon His servants is? That they worship Him and do not associate anything with Him. And the right of the servants upon Allah is that He does not punish whoever does not associate anything with Him." I said: O Messenger of Allah! Shall I not give the people the glad tidings? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not give them the glad tidings, lest they rely on it (alone)."
