حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْخَبَائِرِيُّ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، - رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْبَارِ - عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ اسْتِقْرَاضِ الْخَمِيرِ وَالْخُبْزِ فَقَالَ: «سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، إِنَّمَا هِيَ مِنْ مَكَارِمِ الْأَخْلَاقِ، خُذِ الصَّغِيرَ وَأَعْطِ الْكَبِيرَ، وَخُذِ الْكَبِيرَ وَأَعْطِ الصَّغِيرَ، وَخَيْرُكُمْ أَحْسَنُكُمْ قَضَاءً»
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about borrowing leaven and bread, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Subhan Allah! This is indeed among the noble traits of character. Take the small and give the large, and take the large and give the small, and the best of you is the one who is best in repaying."
