Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 171 — Ali was martyred in the year 40 AH
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: «قُتِلَ عَلِيٌّ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعِينَ، وَكَانَتْ خِلَافَتُهُ خَمْسَ سِنِينَ وَسِتَّةَ أَشْهُرٍ»
Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah said: Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred in the year 40 AH, and his caliphate lasted five years and six months.
