Sayyiduna Muslim al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I recited to him (peace and blessings be upon him) these verses of Suwayd bin Amir al-Mustaliqi:
Never feel secure, even if you spend the night in the Sacred Precinct; truly, death clings to the side of every human being.
Keep walking your path without fear, until you meet what has been decreed for you.
Everyone who has a companion will one day part from him, and every provision, even if you save it, will perish.
Good and evil are bound together in one rope; the night and the day bring you all of that. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had this poet lived to see my time, he would certainly have accepted Islam." At that my father wept, and I said: "O my father, why do you weep, when he was a polytheist who died in the Jahiliyyah?" He said: "I have not seen a polytheist better than Suwayd."
