حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الدَّشْتَكِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الثَّقَفِيِّ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ حِينَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَقَالَ: مَكَانَكُمْ حَتَّى آتِيَكُمْ، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا وَقَدْ تَرَدَّى، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ، قَالَ: أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ شَيْئًا فَعَلَهُ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟، قُلْنَا: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَإِنَّهُمْ صَلُّوا مَعَهُ الْأَوَّلَ ثُمَّ جَلَسُوا، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ: «مَا بَرَحْتُمْ بَعْدُ؟» ، قَالُوا: لَا، فَقَالَ: «لَوْ رَأَيْتُمْ إِلَى رَبِّكُمْ فَتَحَ بَابًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَأَرَى مَجْلِسَكُمْ مَلَائِكَتَهُ يُبَاهِي بِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَرْقُبُونَ الصَّلَاةَ»
Abu Umayyah al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out after praying Zuhr and said: Stay in your places until I come to you. Then he came out to us wrapped in a cloak, and when he had prayed Asr he said: Shall I not tell you of something the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did? We said: Certainly. He said: They prayed the first prayer with him (peace and blessings be upon him), then remained sitting. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to them and said: "Have you still not left (this place)?" They said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If only you could see your Lord: He has opened a door of the heaven and shown your gathering to His angels, boasting about you before them while you are waiting for the prayer."
