Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 169 — through Abu Rashid, who said: Some men

Al-A'mash narrates through Abu Rashid, who said: Some men from the people of Basrah came to Ubayd bin Umayr and said: "Your brothers from the people of Basrah ask you about Ali and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both)." He said: "Did nothing else bring you here?" They said: "No." So he recited this verse: "That was a nation which has passed away; for it is what it earned and for you is what you earn, and you will not be asked about what they used to do" [Al-Baqarah: 134].
