حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «لَا يَزْدَادُ الْأَمْرُ إِلَّا شِدَّةً، وَلَا يَزْدَادُ النَّاسُ إِلَّا شُحًّا، وَلَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ إِلَّا عَلَى شِرَارِ النَّاسِ»
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Matters will only increase in hardship, people will only increase in stinginess, and the Hour will be established only upon the worst of people."
