حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَخْنَسِ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الْحَارِثِيُّ، ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ، أَخْبَرَهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يَقُولُ: «سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» يَنْهَى عَنْ لِبْسِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْحَرِيرِ "

Yusuf bin Mahak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion."
The father of Ali bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) told him; he said: I heard Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid the wearing of gold and silk."
