حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الرِّيَاشِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْخَفَّافُ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَا: ثنا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يَخْطُبُ، فَقَالَ: «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرَةٌ حُلْوَةٌ، فَمَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ بِحَقِّهِ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ» ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: «سَمِعْتُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، وَإِنَّ السَّامِعَ الْمُطِيعَ لَا حُجَّةَ عَلَيْهِ، وَإِنَّ السَّامِعَ الْعَاصِيَ لَا حُجَّةَ لَهُ»
Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) giving a sermon, and he said: "When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion; and this wealth is sweet and green, so whoever takes it by its right is blessed in it." Then he would say: "I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit; and indeed the one who hears and obeys has no argument against him, and the one who hears and disobeys has no argument in his favour."
